Description
Redentore Historia Temporis embodies a unique connection to the rich history of Venice. Inspired by the ancient coin commissioned by Doge Marcantonio Giustinian in the late 17th century, this watch features a dial crafted using a minted technique and then meticulously aged through an artisanal process. The strap also contributes to this narrative, being made from vintage leather restored using natural additives. CASE: 316L steel DIAL: minted, aged by hand DIMENSIONS: 840 mm, 46.7 mm lug to lug, 11 mm thick MOVEMENT: Cal. Seiko NH35A Automatic GLASS: Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment BEZEL: 316L steel WATER RESISTANCE: 5ATM (=50m) STRAP: Restored antique leather, Made in Italy The Charm of Minting To create the dial, we digitized a 17th-century coin, transferring its shape onto a hard steel matrix. From this, semi-finished brass pieces are obtained using the minting technique. Once the metal residues have been eliminated, we move on to the antiquing phase through the application of mineral oils. This complex artisanal process reproduces the aging of vintage coins, giving Redentore Historia Temporis a unique and refined appearance. Inspiration The unique dial of the Redentore Historia Temporis takes inspiration from an ancient Venetian coin minted between 1684 and 1688, known as the Osella. This name derives from the dialect term for female ducks, known for their delicate flavor and part of a traditional annual gift offered by the Doge of Venice. Later, when game became difficult to obtain, Oselle coins were minted to maintain the original meaning of the gesture. Doge Marcantonio Giustinian, Doge of Venice from 1684 to 1688, is known for his determined management of an epidemic of plague, promoting sanitary and quarantine measures. He was also a patron of the arts, contributing to the Venetian cultural heritage. During his reign, he minted the Osella depicting Piazza San Marco, the coin that inspired the Redentore Historia Temporis, paying homage to this significant part of Venetian history. The Meaning of the Coin The caseback provides information on the coin's origins and symbolism. At the top, an imposing angel plays the role of protector of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, lending a note of majesty. Meanwhile, the backdrop unfolds in the famous Piazza San Marco, where a galley, a typical lagoon vessel, completes the captivating scene, combining history and symbolism in an engaging visual interplay.
